The end of the Gamespot forums

Gamespot is moving to a new CMS (Wordpress), which is good for them, but bad for everyone who used the social stuff from the old custom made CMS that was made for Gamespot in the early 2000s. Aka, the forums. They are keeping the accounts and usernames for the new site, but any user generated content does not seem to be coming along, as they said they will be sunsetting them. At the very least, it's not happening immediately, they said there's a window of time, and they will let us know when it will be sunset. I don't think there's anyone at Gamespot left that even knows how to handle all the code that runs the social component of the site, which is why the new site doesn't even have them or link to them. It will likely be replaced with Fandom software (if anything). I’ll miss the social media aspects of this site like the blogs, user videos, and forums, it’s what I grew up in since 2005. I found the site through a Bellsouth directory when looking for videogames. ...

Disclosure Day

Disclosure Day feels like Spielberg’s spiritual follow up to his own Close Encounters of the Third Kind, so much so that it feels like a remake: Various “normal” people get access to visions given to them by aliens that make them alienated to others and have to embark on a trip to find the source. I think Close Encounters is still better because of its unmatched sense of wonder, as Disclosure Day is quite a bit more cynical and had some pacing issues near the beginning. That said, it had a ton of really nice classic cinematic Spielberg alien moments that make the whole ride worthwhile in the end, especially due to its memorable ending. In fact, I think the only real flaw I can give the movie is that it’s set in the wrong time period (present day). This movie seems to act and behave that it would have been set in the 2000s instead. A real life Disclosure Day happening in the matter shown in the movie would not work at all in real life in the modern day. Emily Blunt stol...

This looks like a TV episode

It’s partly Disney’s fault for making The Mandalorian TV show so high-budget looking, but there’s nothing to signify this looks like a movie as opposed to just another TV episode. I think Marvel had the same issue with Captain America 4. The scene with Ripley looks straight out of a TV set. A movie would have had at least a ton of extras in the background and more complicated lighting and more involved blocking, because with a movie you can spend weeks to plan and develop a single shot instead of a few hours. I don’t even think the use of the volume is an issue; movies like The Batman used the volume and it looked great. I think this is just Mandalorian S4 but made as a movie. I’m thinking with Disney’s move away from producing Disney+ streaming content and refocusing back to movies (which are more profitable), the 4th season got retooled into a movie.
