Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf

I wanted to try out Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and got a chance to do so. The production values are incredible, the graphics are spectacular and the gameplay is very fun.

Just looking at the character’s hair and faces and the detail of the world, both up close and far into the distance; the amount of artistry and talent that went into producing this game was phenomenal.

However, outside of anything related to production values, the game falls flat. The writing is atrocious, there’s no drama or stakes and everyone speaks like HR is in the room with them. Each scene is scripted as if it was a low budget TV show during a bottle episode where everyone has a nice little chat instead of a multi-million dollar production.

The art style seems more like a science fiction story than a fantasy one, it looks like a Disney+ Star Wars show. The gameplay is more like Mass Effect than Dragon Age, all the way to the hub world having stairs like the Normandy and the infuriating writing aspect of your character never saying what you asked them to say.

It’s also not much of an RPG, it’s more of an action game with RPG elements, as if it was Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order or Devil May Cry. That’s not actually an issue, the gameplay is very fun, but I expect Dragon Age to be an RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3. This has what I would expect out of an action-game spin-off of the series.

I do want to keep playing though.
